The Year of Learning How to Surrender

In past years I had tried making New Years Resolutions, but to no avail they never stick.  So I decided to do something a little different this year.  I would think of a word that would help define my 2016.   It took a while for me to figure it out, but the word came to me last night.  The word for my 2016 is: Surrender.

The last couple of months have not been the easiest for me health wise. Nothing too serious and it isn’t life threatening, but it is very annoying and there are days where I feel like the health issues control my life.  Last night was one of those nights, but it also was different because that was also my breaking point.  It was clear, I needed to surrender and let it go.  I suck at that, always have, but this is the year where I am going to grow in that area.  It’s not just going to help in health issues that I may have, but also other areas of my life, whether that be in relationships, or jobs etc.

So the motto for the year for me is “Let Go, and Let God” and remember that I cannot control every little thing in my life.

  1. Control what you can and trust that what you cannot control will bring you wisdom ! Sounds hokey, maybe, but knowledge increases ability. and unasked for experience doubles knowledge if one pays attention ! What one does with the results is completely up to the one ! After reading over what I just wrote, I am inclined to pooh it all away, but I think I will let it stand ! Carry on little soldier ! : )

  2. well this is different, a lot of people think, letting go/surrender is weak, I think it takes immense courage to let go of things that are out of your control, I know it is difficult for me because I am a control freak. I say more power to you…

  3. I’ve been doing the Word a Year since 2014. It is amazing how one simple word can be so life-altering. You chose wisely for your word this year. My word is Abundance for 2016 and I am open to being abundantly blessed. Good luck with Letting Go and Letting God this year. It will be a wonderful lesson for you all year if you trust in the process 🙂

  4. Love your motto: “Let Go, and Let God.” This is the second year that I’ve used one word to describe what I want my year to be like. Last year it was “fabulous” and this year it’s “simplicity.” I haven’t done New Years resolutions in years b/c I’ve just focused on my goals but the one word deal worked nicely last year and this year I’m adding a mood board just to remind me of those things that are mission critical.
